CHAMPIONSHIP
WINNERS AND OTHERS
Sparky's Runaround Sue, owned by Norman Ahl of Tucson, Arizona
and handled by Jimmy Berneathy, ran the tree lines to perfection.
Watered at the cattle tank at 10, Sue made a long forward cast all the way
across the big meadow at the south end of the course. On the west
side Sue worked the tree line all the way to the end at a very fast pace,
always to the front. At the end of the tree line she made a long
cast across the open meadow to chukar island. At chukar island Sue
was on a mission with finds at 27 and 32. Watered at 38, she
continued with finds at 42 and 47. At this time she made a huge cast
across the open meadow to the gun dog course where she had finds at 50 and
54. Every find was exciting and her style and intensity on point
were of the highest caliber. A worth champion with a truly great
race.
The runner-up came from
the seventh brace. Lobo's Legend was handled by Scott Johnson, and
the third place dog, Countess Mon Petite Whiz, was handled by Kevin
Stonehouse. Released at 10:19 Wednesday both dogs made huge casts
out into the open meadow before returning to run the tree lines. At
6 Whiz looked good pointing but only had feathers. At 34 Lobo's
Legend pointed with Whiz backing, a very nice3 find. At 36 we had a
divided find, both dogs looking good, but Whiz took a minor step, probably
the difference in this brace. Both dogs had huge finishing casts.
Fourth place went to Sunquest Scooter Pie, owned by Hank and Dee Hartnek
and handled by Jimmy Berneathy. Scooter ran a rather controlled
race, Jimmy keeping the reins tight until after her third find. She
had three nice finds, one on quail and two on chukar. After her
third find she opened up and finished strong, going away fast.
